'Every song has a different memory for me,' he tells MTV News of just-released solo album.By Kyle Anderson

Vince Neil has spent the better part of his life as the frontman for Mötley Crüe, the wildest, drunkest, most audacious band birthed by the Los Angeles glam-metal scene of the 1980s. Though much of the behind-the-scenes debauchery was captured in the book "The Dirt," Neil's personal story will finally be told when his autobiography "Tattoos and Tequila: To Hell and Back With One of Rock's Most Notorious Frontmen" hits stores in September.

But anybody looking for a sneak peek into Neil's life need look no further than his solo album — also called Tattoos and Tequila — that hits stores Tuesday (June 22). The 12-track album (Neil's third studio project as a solo artist) is made up mostly of covers of songs from some of Neil's favorite artists, including Cheap Trick ("He's a Whore"), Elvis Presley ("Viva Las Vegas"), the Scorpions ("Another Piece of Meat") and Elton John ("The Bitch Is Back").

"The album is a window in my life. These are songs that are on my iPhone right now," said Neil, who thinks of Tattoos and Tequila as a piece of his autobiography. "Every song has a different memory for me. I listen to the album, and I go, 'Yeah, this is the album I listened to when I went surfing every day,' or, 'This is the song that me and Tommy [Lee] listened to while cruising around looking for chicks.' It's a cool version of my life in music."

In addition to the covers, Tattoos and Tequila also features two original tunes. In fact, one of them — "Another Bad Day" — is a resurrected Crüe song that never got recorded. " 'Another Bad Day' was originally written for a Mötley record. It might have been New Tattoo, but we can't remember which one," Neil told MTV News. "We had demoed the song and thought it had a great vibe, but it never made it onto the record. I kept it and told Nikki [Sixx] one day, 'I want to use this song.' Nikki couldn't even remember it. I found it on a laptop that I had back then and redid it. I'm glad I did it, because it's a great song and would have been lost forever."

Neil is currently on the road with the Scorpions and will rejoin the members of Mötley Crüe for a handful of festivals (including a brief stint on this summer's Ozzfest). In the meantime, he's preparing for a very prestigious anniversary. "2011 is the 30th anniversary of Mötley Crüe, so we're going to celebrate with another Crüe Fest next year," he said. "It will be a big party — we don't know how to do it any other way."
